Novel Roses

I am so IN LOVE with the look of old book pages in my decor! Whether it be modge podged onto a lamp or chair, placed as a backdrop to a DIY piece of art, or in this case, in a wreath or floral arrangement. I just had to show you all an easy step-by-step on how to do these, what I like to call-"Novel Roses"!
Aren't they adorable?
Your first step is to find some old books that are no longer in use. They can be found around your house or even at your local Goodwill store. The more aged the better since it will give your arrangement that much wanted vintage appeal! You can even use dictionaries or encyclopedias...because who really uses these in this day and age anyway....thanks to Google!
Simply tear out about 5 pages from your chosen book & using scissors cut those pages in half like this...
Then start cutting one of those halves into a circular shape...
Then starting from the outer corner of the circle begin cutting in a spiral pattern like this...
And you will end up with something that looks like soooo..
Next from the outer edge of the spiral, start folding the paper towards you being sure to keep the roll tight....
It will then look form this. Not your rose just yet. But be patient...
Now slowly let go of your roll to form your rose. It will look like something like this...
Then using a glue gun, glue the rose to the bottom portion of the paper that looks like this...
And there you have your pretty "Novel Rose". You can add a pearl or some bling to the center if you like.
I spent a rainy day with my daughter making a bunch of these for different projects. She even had the bright idea of making one for my husband because she knows he loves Phantom of the Opera. She is too cute!
So if you have some extra time on your hands, get started on these cute "Novel Roses". You can make all types of personalized gifts & such once you get the basics down! Have fun!
