Decorative Tray Re-Vamp

What can I say...I am just Tray Cray-Cray! Trays can easily add interest, texture and even a pop of color to any space. You can place them pretty much anywhere. I love them on dining tables, console tables, buffets, credenzas, atop of a dresser, counter tops in a kitchen and/or bathroom or simply on a coffee table as I did here. It's so fun to add lovely little ornate things on it such as candles, flowers, vases, interesting glassware, books, or anything that you absolutely love. Not to mention that this is very hot look right now in home decor...I promise :)
Anyway, this is what my tray looked like BEFORE:
As you can see it was well..a BLAH dark brown bamboo...and Katie did not like. I don't like to get rid of things that I could end up using later and felt so bad for this lil guy that was just sitting in my closet collecting dust, so I decided to give him a makeover! Since I wanted a few pops of white in my living room, I gave it a few coats of Apple Barrel's White Acrylic Paint and once it was completely dry, distressed it all over with a 150 grit sandpaper. Which made it look like this AFTER:
Then I went hunting around the house to display a tiny vignette. I included an old wine jug, a vanilla scented candle, a small novel rose that I can show you how to make HERE,an antique skeleton key and a few stacked books. One of which is "The Notebook" which is one of my favorites! I even added a casual bow that I made from old fabric that I tore rather than cut to give it that aged worn look that I love!
How does he look?  Now go find an old tray and get to work people! :)

  1. So cute! I definitely like the after version better. It's amazing what a bit of paint and distressing can do! Saw you at Wow Us Wednesday link party. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
