Wall Art Make-Over

I love wall art. It can simply add subtle touches to any room and help create the perfect mood. I recently was given a few unwanted pieces from a friend who is redecorating her home. I could not bear seeing her just throw them away, and I thought with some minor changes they would work perfectly in our Master Bedroom.

As shown in our Master Bedroom Re-Do, I am pretty much going for the whole French Old-World look with a modern twist. In order for this piece to become part of the room, this is what I decided to do.

I trotted over to Michael's and found an acrylic paint in Folk Art's Metallic Sahara Gold.
I used painters tape to cover the outer portion of the glass so I would not get paint in the areas that I did not want it...and in turn throw a small tantrum. Then using a small brush that I already had on hand, I simply gave the frame 2 coats of the acrylic paint, allowing each coat to dry for about 15 minutes in between.
You don't have to worry about covering all of the areas perfectly if you desire the same Old-World look that I did. Just be sure to have a pretty consistent color on the entire surface.
After allowing the whole thing to dry entirely for about an hour, I went at it with a 100 grit sandpaper. I made sure to sand the area in long even strokes to achieve that Old-World look. What do you think? I didn't even initially notice the Eiffel Tower faintly shown in the background. LOVE! :)
I also did the same thing with this picture. Unfortunately I was filled with such giddy excitement I forgot to take the before pic! Just keep in mind the frame was the same glossy black. Gives it a totally new look!

I think I may do the same to the long mirrors next to our DIY Tufted Headboard . Again you can pretty much do this to any piece of art that you currently have to give it a fresh new look. If you happen to find a great piece at a flea market that you like, but are not in love with the frame, you can easily change out the color to whatever your lil heart desires. And its fun to make something your own! I did the same thing to this lighthouse picture that I used in the Kids Room/Guest Room

Believe me, once you do one piece you will want to paint every picture in your house! Be sure to stay tuned for many more projects that are on the horizon! :)
