One of my many projects that has been in process for the last couple of weeks is the Kitchen Re-Do. Although this is a fairly small space, I decided that I wanted to make a coffee bar on the left and overall make the space more functional. Although this kitchen is brand new, the black appliances are boring and the stark white walls leave much to be desired. I imagined a pallet of neutral colors including creamy beiges, coffee browns and pale greens to warm this cold place up.
Don't you love the cute little hole from where the phone jack used to be? No worries that will all be hidden!
Anywho...here are some of the accessories that I picked up:
Got these cute coffee pics on a yardsale site for $5.00 for all 4.
Bought these 2 shelves at Goodwill for $6.00 total that are in fantastic shape and actually ended up matching the cabinetry...SCORE!
And this thingamajig (yes that is a technical design term) was $2.99. It has the perfect bones for what I envisioned to hang my coffee mugs and espresso cups. With a little TLC of course. Bye-Bye weird stenciling! C-ya later dude!
And lastly, some of the dishware that I will be placing on the shelves and hooks which were also purchased at Goodwill. I also picked up some cute green plates that were originally from Pier One but I only paid $8.00 for all 4 which you will see in pics to come!
Phase 1: Got the first coat of Benjamin Moore Brown Tar on the accent wall.
Phase 2: Once the 2nd coat was completely dry I decided that I wanted to do a different type of wall treatment to tie in a few different colors in the room. Using a regular plastic bag, I simply dipped it in each color and sporadically placed it against the wall to make the "print". I made sure I went in opposite directions and scrunched up the bag in different ways each time to achieve this marbled look. This was before the touch ups were made by the ceiling. Ohhh that bothers me!
This was a somewhat messy task and I was still anxious/worried/terrified on how it was going to turn out so I apologize in advance that I didn't get more pics of the process. Anyway, here's a closer look. OH ME LIKEY!
Then we painted all of the opposing walls in Glidden's Warm Caramel. Two coats of that baby and it totally warmed up the whole area!
Oh and do you like my green onions that are growing in water on my counter? I still need something else for that corner to hide the plug. Have I mentioned that I absolutely DESPISE seeing plugs and wires? I always try to hide them in someway. I know I know....I'm weird!
Then we hung all of the shelving, plates and the remaining decor that I picked up along the way. What do you think?
Do you remember that ugly "thingamajig" that I paid $2.99 for at Goodwill? Well I painted it black, distressed it and free-handed the word "Cafe" in the center in Folk Art's Metallic Sahara Gold.
Do you like it better now?
Coffee, Tea or a Banana Nut Muffin...anyone?
I'll have you know those muffins only lasted until after I snapped the pics. Me and the kids gobbled them up!
I may add a few more antique coffee tins eventually. Because I really never stop! And who doesn't want to use that as an excuse to drag your husband through a bunch of antique shops:)
Oh and I made this quirky little piece of wall art a few months back with some leftover fabric and some old frames. Since it has the green in the "S" it found its home on the kitchen window sill with my plants.

So there you have it. The finished kitchen. With lots of functionality as well as personality. Now if I could only get around to organizing the inside of my cabinets. I am NOT showing you pics of whats going on in there now!
Till next time...Tootles :)

Wow ! Beautiful transformation - You did a lovely job ! The colors are warm and compliment each other so well.....
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your wonderful compliment Patricia. It is so great how much more warm it really is. We love it too! :)
DeleteI got a med/ large decorative plate and a metal plate stand and put it kitty-whompus by the outlet. It hides the outlet, yet gives me room to plug things in without moving the plat.
