French Inspired Master Bedroom

When we moved back to New Jersey from Minnesota at the end of 2011, we basically had to start our bedroom again from scratch since we had given away our whole set to our niece. What better excuse did I have to re-build BIGGER and BETTER!

 "ECHO ECHOOOOO"....EMPTY!

First and foremost we decided to upgrade to a King size bed, which is wonderful because now we have plenty of room for all 3 of us. Yup I said all THREE. Our pup Laila loves to sleep with us at night and sprawls out to her liking.
Secondly I ordered a new bed-set. And for the time being positioned the bed under the window (GAG!!!!)
After a few days of looking at this horrific set-up, the hamster wheels in my head began to turn. I saw visions of tall glorious tufted headboards in creamy colors surrounded by 2 night stands and tall mirrors. Warm colored curtains, dark mahogany dressers and simple yet elegant french like decor in muted golds and bronzes. I began to swoon. Then looked at bank account and heard the Price Is Right Losing Horn. That's when I decided I CAN do this and I WILL!

I immediately got on Craigslist. Husband's eyes began to roll. After endless searching I scored 2 quaint night stands that originated in the 1940's with leather inlays, small gold trim and little caster wheels that I adored.
The same person that sold me these also had a long and tall dresser in great condition. They were a little lighter than I envisioned but that can be easily fixed with some dark stain from Lowe's

(Sorry for the bad lighting in this one)
Then I headed to Goodwill later that week and found 2 matching lamps on the cheap. Turns out they were from Ikea. Then to Home Goods and got 2 drum shades and a sign on that said "Always Kiss me Goodnight" Awwww how cute is that! In the clearance section too!! BOOYAH!
Then back to Craigslist again and finally found the long, tall mirrors I envisioned, without the hefty price-tag. Once I made the Tufted Headboard and put it all together, the end result was this.

The room is still a work in progress but we are very happy with the results so far. I am still deciding on the appropriate wall color, I have to re-stain all of the furniture and I am thinking of doing the mirrors in a bronze. Also working on a few DIY pictures for the walls, DIY pillows and a faux chandelier. So excited! Stay tuned!!!! :)

***Here's a sneak peek of one of the DIY pillows I made out of an old sweater that I had in my closet. Step-by-Step coming soon!
